Edit: Is that a missing fog light? Or some weird French thing?
AND i could legally import one. Well, if I had the money.

There are a few, and usually one is always for sale somewhere on Bring a Trailer.

I'm trying to not think about what he's getting next, because a) it will make the surprise more fun and b) I'll get impatient waiting, because we waited over a month before the Ferrari reveal.

Like a few people have said, they're out there but rare.
There was one at the last Chicagoland Supercar Saturdays event I went to. Looked pretty much exactly like the one pictured above. Completely stock and in pristine condition, with something like 60k on the odometer. Owner was some old hippy guy who was really cool to talk with.

Lol, yeah. They're still rolling in, but less consistently now. I'm surprised I got that many too. haha

"Is that a missing fog light?"
Possibly, but it might be the towing eye.

That sounds reasonable. I'm staring at it at near full resolution on my work desktop, and I can't quite tell what's in there.

Having googled a bit more, I'm not so sure. Looks like the towing eye is in roughly the same location, but that should be a foglight, and the towing eye is just inboard of it.
Who knows, though? Could be modified.

They are indeed quite expensive, even in France. Not a lot for sale either.
This one is selling for 58 000 €, but it's been modified to look like a Maxiturbo one. It has the front axle of the tour de corse apparently : http://www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/74656… and it only has 220 hp
There is this "HOLY SHIT THAT'S EXPENSIVE" one too : http://www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/72719… and it looks to have been heavily modified. It's not a genuine Maxiturbo, but it still has 360 hp.
The Maxiturbo being Renault's entry for Group B, it was a 350hp, 970kg RWD monster.
Newt year you'll be able to import this French Delorean though (because PRV V6) : http://www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/73049…

There's a red one that runs around my area. My wife looks at me weird every time I excitedly point it out.

Good choice Alfalfa. Although the Renault Turbo in that photo looks like some rallycross version becuase I don't even see side mirrors. I couldn't import that beast car (the US isn't ready for it yet).

I would bet so. It's my third most favorite car I've ever seen. Right on the same day that I saw that, I also saw a Jaguar E-Type (How!?!?!) and a Saab 900. Oh yea, and sat in a GT3, 911, GLA, GWagon, and a few others. Mostly 2015 Jags and next-gen corvettes.
